So I am in week two of Weight Watchers where they encourage you to "move" more. Whatever you enjoy doing in the way of exercise, you should do. I am not an exercise person. However, I have been walking a mile each day (in addition to the walking all over the university campus I do every day anyway!) and today I did it, I bought my Sketchers Shape Ups! Yes, they are pricey, although I did get them on sale at Kohls for $99.99 and then I had 15% off, so that helped, but I have heard such great things about them and at this point, anything can help me!
Today we went ice skating which I was really looking forward to as that is the one form of exercise I would do every day if I could. However, we don't really live that close to a rink so it is not something I can do even every weekend. Unfortunately we went to one of the ski resorts as they have an open air rink and the conditions were terrible. It was a beautiful sunny day but they had had lots of snow and they didn't clean the ice properly and we could barely skate so we got off after 10 minutes! Next time we will take the time to drive down to the one at South Lake Tahoe which is far more superior and worth it.
But tomorrow, I am going out walking in my new shoes!
Oh, and today, I saw my friend and her husband and he has not seen me for a few months and neither one of them know that I am on Weight Watchers and he actually told me I am getting skinnier! Those were his words, not mine! So that felt awesome!

That's awesome! When someone else notices that is the best. I need to start moving more....uh, maybe tomorrow.... :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It's definitely nice to have feedback from someone else b/c we don't always notice small changes in ourselves. I need to get a new pair of sneakers & I've heard a lot about those too. Let me know how you like them.
ReplyDeleteI've actually done this weightloss thing in reverse. My husband and I joined the local gym here with our kids a few weeks ago and I've been going 4-5 times a week to work out, plus we've been taking the kids swimming 1ce or 2ce a week as well. It's very expensive--$92 per month for the family membership, but we wanted to make a change and spend more of our time going there, and less time and money going out to eat. So far, it has worked out pretty well. We've cut down to 1 lunch out and 1 dinner out per week, whereas before we might have eaten 4-meals on the road in course of a week! It was breaking the bank & making us unhealthy.I've tried some classes--kickboxing, Zumba, Body Pump; I've found that I need to branch out to other things so I don't get bored and quit.
2 weeks into going to the gym was when I felt like I was ready to take things to the next level and join WW. Food is the thing I have the hardest time with. I get feeling very entitled (especially when I work out!) so I'm working on being accountable and learning moderation.
Christy that is fantastic! I don't think it matters what order you do this, it just matters that you do SOMETHING! I will definitely let you know what I think of the Shape Ups, I can't wait to wear them today!
ReplyDeleteFood is an issue for me. I cannot control myself around food and portion control is also key. I found that doing the Weight Watchers meals actually helped me with portion control and I was surprised at how full I was on smaller amounts (which means that I stuffed my face before!). And having the points helps you know what you can have throughout the day.
Please keep us up to date on how you are doing!
Sally, I agree....we just gotta do something! I like WW for the same reasons. I cannot believe the amount of food I was eating. I really should be 300lbs...how I'm not...I'm not sure!
ReplyDeleteOkay seriously, the Sketchers Shape Ups are worth every penny! My legs are feeling it today and it forces you to stand correctly and not slouch!
ReplyDeleteMy friend has the Sketchers Shape Ups in the Mary Jane style. I was thinking about getting those because then I could wear them to work. I'm not really a sneakers person. Sally, you will have to let me know how you like them in a couple of weeks!
